Freedom!

And in the bus statistics, Harry Potter 6 is not half as popular as the 5th book. I've only seen one person reading it to while away the journey whereas Order of the Phoenix had anything from 2-6 people reading it at once.

Today, the mogs went to the vets to get their blood tests. Meg made her usual fuss and only calmed down when given treats upon her return. Because she had to be put to sleep in order to get her blood, poor Trogdor was forced to spend all morning at the vets until she was ready to go home. He was extremely mopey afterwards, and has been sleeping all evening, so he probably spent the morning cowering at the back of the carrier expecting doom to descend at every moment. Still they're both fine now. It was my husband who had to take them. I was at work so he had to be the 'bad parent'. Not that I particularly endeared myself to them when I ate my breakfast in front of them this morning; they had to fast before sedation (the original plan was for them both to sleep through it, but they decided Trog didn't need to). Fortunately, they're very forgiving.

But the thing I'm happiest about right now is that we've paid off my student loan. We wanted to cut down on our debts before moving since that'll help our credit rating apparently. There ain't much we can do about the mortgage, but my student loan only had 2 and a half years to go and we had a bit of a windfall, so we went ahead and paid it off. Please note that I was one of the last people to go through University in the UK before they decided tuition fees should be paid by the students, so my loan was not unduly extortionate. But still, it's lovely to have it paid off! Just got to work on the mortgage now....

And finally, we've started using our bikes. The SO's accident put me off more than him, I think, but I suddenly realised that at this rate we'd move before I ever got on mine. So we did a couple of laps round the field yesterday, which was as much as I could do before my thighs reminded me that it had really been quite some time since I'd ridden a bike. Today, we rode down to the supermarket and back, with a brief stop in the park. My thighs were fine, but my backside is going to take a while to get used to the saddle! Still, stopping at the playground meant that I could hang from the climbing frame. Seriously, I occasionally get pains in my shoulders--probably due from typing all day at a desk that's too high for me. Hanging from a doorframe helps get everything aligned or something. Hanging from a climbing frame is a little less awkward. I'm going to have to improve my upper arm strength though. I think I managed less than 30 seconds before dropping, which is frankly pathetic.

Hee hee. Just imagining you dangling from a climbing frame. :)

Poor kitties. They'll cope though. I'm assuming they don't have to be quarantined to go to the US, but what about when they come back?

From what Marion was telling me when we were idly chit-chatting about my possibilities of moving to the UK, the quarantine time has been pretty much eliminated -- this was key because there was no way I'd ever subject my cats to the 6 month quarantine that had been in place. So I looked into it a bit. It's been about a year since then, but as long as they have all the veterinary certifications they should be good to go.

Dangling is fun! :D I can dangle for a short while, but what I used to love and definitely can't do anymore is the monkey bars -- swinging from one to another. Nuh uh. I can barely manage one swing. That's assuming I find one tall enough to not drag my feet (or knees) on the ground. =)

I wish I lived in an area that was friendly to bicycles. You have to drive to get to a safe biking place. It was one of the first things I discovered and disliked about this area, because until we moved here at the beginning of high school I biked /everywhere/. Glad you're getting to use yours!

I've seen a lot of people reading HP5, too. That or they have both of them -- someone selling merchandise at the concert I just attended had both on the back counter.

If our cats had to be quarantined to come back, I'm not sure we'd have been looking at US jobs in the first place. As it is, there's a pet passport scheme that means that pets can skip the quarantine if they're coming from certain countries--and the States is one of them. They need to be up to date with their rabies vaccine, and they have to have a blood test dated at least 6 months prior to entering the UK that says the vaccine has taken effect. They also have to be certified free of ticks and fleas within 48 hours of entering the UK.

I'm not sure whether Virginia has any particular requirements to bring them in, but I don't think so.

As for cycling, it's lovely to have one here. VA won't be too bad for bikes, although not quite as friendly as round these parts--still, it's virtually completely flat in that part of VA, so that's something! But I'm determined to build up my muscle-strength, so we can take the bikes for a day-trip somewhere fun.
